New band stickers came in the mail yesterday. Yay! Nice white text on black vinyl.

Ramping up for the show, tightening the set list...still gotta slap together 2 more songs in the next two weeks and get them down.

Wow, haven't posted in awhile...but that's probably because things have been going so well! The band finally was able to decide on a good name, we're now know as Deviant and we actually just got our first show booked only a week later! We're headling the Valentine's Day trance party at Rock Island this year. And no, we don't play trance music but it helps that my bass player Daisho has been in the DJ scene for ages now :)

Some sundays are better than others...came up with a kickass aggro song today...Melanie put down lyrics to it almost immediately...such a good creative vibe going today.

Oh yeah, took some pictures too.

So....we've been getting lots of positive response to the tracks we've been playing for people at parties and clubs, we must be doing something right! I think it's good that we don't have a particular "genre" sound...people don't know what category we are, just that the songs are good!

Melanie goes to Prague for 3 weeks, it will surely be an inspiring place to write lyrics.

FUCK! Could my luck get any worse....So I was defragmenting one of my hard drives on my music production PC and it hangs...clicking noises emit from the PC. I shut down, try and reboot....same clicking and no hard drive is found. FUCK. Apparently, my 1 year old Seagate Barracuda HD has suffered mechanical failure. That drive has the past year's worth of songs that I've written and was in the process of recording an album with my new music project. No backups....(I was planning on getting to that sometime). So, not wanting to have to rewrite all my songs over, I contacted a company that specializes in data recovery from dead hard drives...the estimate they gave me was for $1500-2000 (if they can actually recover the files). GREAT!! A few $3 CD-Rs would have saved me all this trouble (I feel like a fucking dumbass for not making backups).

Some people have suggested that I just start over...maybe it was a sign of better things to come, tabula rasa....I dunno. Unexepected, frustrating, annoying...just a few words to describe the situation.

PLEASE! Stop sending me demos...thanks to all who tried out, we've found the person we're going to stick with and have started writing some good stuff. I'll possibly post some demos up, depending on publishing issues. In the meantime, I have some photos of my messy music studio up.

Soooo....that sucked. Actually, the last song I recorded kicked ass but it sucks that I have to find a new singer now (I think it's a requirement that lead singers have to be FLAKEY).
That's okay though, I have one new collaborator out of it now (marcus). But what does this mean?

SINGER WANTED:

Must be reliable and commited. A strong singing voice matched by a charismatic stage presence is required, professional music knowledge or experience is helpful but not required. You must be able to write your own lyrics and come up with vocal arrangements, for the most part we're not writing your lyrics for you. If you also play an instrument there may be a chance for you to play that as well. Our music sound is filled with heavy guitar, dancy aggro synth lines, and a light infusion of classical influence....industrial-ish but not strict industrial.

If you want to record an album and play some shows, then this could be for you.

Our practice space is located in the Capital Hill area of Denver, CO.

Must be around the age of 21-30, exceptions may be made based on talent.

Please send your info to dmackinnon@kheperi.com if you are interested but please don't send any audio files via e-mail.

Uggg....hangover. Kristian came by and we laid down some vocal tracks for a new song last night. I might have celebrated a little too much afterward. Anyway, we have a drummer in Divine Reich now so we're going to start rehearsing the new material soon (as soon as Marcus get's his damn kick pedal!!).

The Colorado Underground Music Awards are later tonight. There might be an unveiling of my new project......

10.17.01

It's been a busy month, I've been writing new songs and have been swamped with remix work and some website music. There's a possiblity of a remix CD coming out this Fall with some of my work on it...we'll see!

ATTENTION!

I'm looking for a few individuals to work on music with and to start a new group that will record albums and play shows. Industrial or "industrial influenced" style of music is what I'm looking to work on, serious inquiries only.

I'd prefer working with people who have already been in bands and have recorded material that they could use as a reference. My music studio is located in downtown Denver (Capitol Hill) so those interested need to either live in the Denver-Boulder metro area or be willing to commute.

E-mail me at dmackinnon@kheperi.com

My good friend and collaborator, Kristian, and I had a very, very productive week of writing and creating music.

That's why I was shocked and saddened to hear that after our session on Sunday, the 24th, he was in a terrible car accident after returning home from dropping a friend off from an evening of clubbing.

My deepest condolences and best wishes go out to Kristian, who is in a coma and hospitolized, and to his supportive family.

I've decided I'm going to compete in the Colorado Underground Music Awards. Now I just need a band! A lot of music has been written over the past couple of months but lack of vocals keeps me from publishing it. I have a demo version of one song available that I worked on with London, a cover of Depeche Mode's 'Little 15'.

12.10.2000

Okay, so I'm wishy-washy...I've pretty much lost interest in my old band so I've been working on new music with a certain female vocalist from Denver. I'll put something up when we get some material recorded. Right now I'm holding out for better equipment so most likely I won't be posting any music we do until sometime in January.

10.11.2000

After a long break, The New Gods have reformed and are recording new material and preparing to play some shows in early 2001. I'll still continue to write music for other projects of mine but The New Gods will be my main focus once again.

08.30.2000

Well, well, looks like all the wrong people are excited about working with me while all the right ones can't get off their asses. Who knows when somethings is going to get done. I realized today that I haven't had a song completed since January of 2000. That's really sad. Even though I've been writing, it's all different styles and just sitting around waiting for a vocalist. Hmm, maybe I should start working on instrumental music.

08.06.2000

After several false startups and even finishing songs for projects that never got anywhere, I'm currently writing new music with my roommate. The project will most likely be straight synths, no guitar. I'll continue to write songs with guitar for my solo project however. I'll try and put up some demo songs as soon as we have a good feel for our musical direction but it might be a few weeks since I just got a new day job and will be starting that soon.

06.01.2000

Currently, I'm taking a break from performing with any bands. My last band, The New Gods, is kind of on hiatus.

Right now I'm working on an instrumental project as well as some projects with local vocalists. Lately I've been writing mostly industrial-rock music (check out the audio sample).

How many bands/projects have I been involved in? Too many. I started out playing in bands that didn't necessarily play the type of music that I was into but would give me experience and insight in multiple genres. Eventually, I got fed up playing music I didn't like so I started The New Gods in December of 1998 with Kristian. This would be my first industrial band. It was also the first time I would compose ALL of the music, previously I only played guitar and clarinet parts. Although we were well received in Denver and had club and radio play of our single, as well as submissions to several labels, conflicts and stress between Kristian and I forced me to call it off for the time being. Some of those close to me know the situation but most don't.

My main problem is that I can't seem to find a musical partner that is as motivated and driven to succeed as I am.
